The songs on Magpie were mostly written at the end of spring and start of summer, when the sudden heat brings a muggy haze over everything, and nights take on a quiet, dreamy, almost magical intensity. When fireflies dot our vision in tiny bursts of light, and the sunset feels like it drags out longer, and everything glows softly as the night gently wraps its arms around the world. When busy intersections become silent, barely interrupted by the occasional car. With regard to the music, I wanted to make a record that feels like that.

Thematically, this album is about holding on to love when the rest of the world feels crazy. The state of the world may feel uncertain and volatile, but you feel safe in your certain, solid love. If you love somebody, make sure they know.

Magpie completes the trilogy that started with Rudderless, and continued with Firewalker.

When I started recording solo stuff late last year, I figured I'd make a little 4-track EP and then I'd have to take a break for school stuff. Three albums later, I kinda outdid my original intention! I'm really happy that the responses I've gotten so far have been positive, and I'm looking forward to what comes next!

This record is dedicated to Mars and my mom, my dad, my brother, and everybody who has encouraged me, inspired me, come out to shows, and helped me along the way. I couldn't have done it without you.

Thanks for coming along for the ride. Don't worry, it's not over yet!
